Obituary Professor Keiichi Fujita 1924-2010
Professor Keiichi Fujita, honour chairman of IS-Kanazawa 2012, passed away peacefully on the 31 July, 2010. He was the past President of Japanese Geotechnical Society (JGS) from 1984-85, after serving as Vice president from 1982-83.
He was an outstanding expert of geotechnical engineering in Japan and worldwide. His contribution covers various geotechnical engineering fields, including tunnelling, deep excavations, pile foundations, standard penetration test and others. Among these contributions, it should be worth noting that he vigorously promoted the research and practical activities of dynamic pile load testing in Japan. As far as the International Conferences on the Application of the Stress-Wave Theory to Piles are concerned, he attended the conferences in Canada, the Netherlands and Brazil and contributed to the development of both research and practices based on his rich professional experiences.
